Top 10 things to do at Plymouth Armed Forces Day

Plymouth Armed Forces Day, in association with Babcock, will return on Saturday 29 June 2024 on Plymouth Hoe.


The day is a fantastic opportunity for for everyone to come along and show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community from currently serving troops to reservists, veterans, cadets and their families.

1. Military Villages


Explore the military villages and discover the wide range of military vehicles and equipment on display. There will be military personnel on hand to chat to you and explain what equipment is used when.

2. Parade of Standards


If you are a Veteran or Cadet, then why not take part in the Parade of Standards, at 11am. Or just come and watch, as the Veterans and Cadets march across the promenade.


3. Military


Navigate your way through a minefield using some of the mine detection equipment used by the Royal Navy. Discover what it takes to work in the Defence Medical Group and get hands-on with the medical exhibits as well as exploring the Battlefield Ambulance.

 

4. Demonstrations


Watch the thrilling demonstrations in the main arena, including HM Naval Base Devonport Field Gun talk, the Royal Marines Unarmed Combat Display and Team Endeavour Punishers Wheelchair Rugby.

5. Junior Field Gun Tournament


Show your support to the 20 schools taking part in the exhilarating Junior Field Gun tournaments, taking place throughout the day, as they compete for the silver trophies.

6. Air Demonstrations


Look out over Plymouth Sound National Marine Park and watch the exciting air demonstrations from 4pm, including a Wasp, Swordfish and the AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers!

7. Watch Company B


Get jiving with the jive jump band Company B, who will be bringing the sights and sounds of the 1940s with an energetic show full of swing and swagger! Keeping with the 1940s theme, there will also be a range of vintage military vehicles on display.


8. Veteran's Village


Visit the Veteran’s Village where you will find over 80 charities and organisations offering information and advice, plus lots of hands-on activities. The Veterans Village is supported by the Royal British Legion, who would love to chat to you about how they support serving personnel, veterans and their families. Foster for Plymouth will be providing lots of free fun activities suitable for young children.

9. Live Music


Enjoy the stage performances from the much-loved Military Wives Choir, Rock Choir, City of Plymouth Pipe Band and the talented young musicians from Plymouth Youth Music Service.


10. Evening Concert


Dance the night away at the free evening concert, sponsored by C&G Catering, with an awesome line-up of local bands. Kicking off the show at 5.45pm is the Feel Good Factory, followed by Jessica and the Rabbits, Rockafella and The Big Strut. There will be plenty of well-known hits to sing along to!
