AECOM is a global infrastructure consulting firm, with regional offices across the UK, including Plymouth, with a long history supporting and developing careers for those leaving the military. Transitioning from military service to civilian life can be a challenging for both the individual and their families. AECOM is dedicated to supporting former Service Personnel in building fulfilling careers, recognising the invaluable skills and experiences that veterans bring.

A History of Hiring Heroes:

At AECOM, recruiting individuals with military backgrounds is deeply ingrained in the company's culture. Currently, the UK&I team boasts a workforce of at least 200 veterans, including the Chief Executive of Europe and India. AECOM actively collaborates with organisations like the CTP, BuildForce, and the Officers' Association to promote career opportunities within the company to the Armed Forces community.

Unlocking the Power of Transferable Skills:

While certain roles within AECOM, such as project management and defence-related work, align naturally with veterans' expertise, AECOM acknowledges that veterans bring far more to the table. They possess strong leadership, organisational and communication skills that are invaluable to both the company and clients. The ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and deliver results efficiently makes former Service Personnel a significant asset within AECOM's workforce.

Finding the Perfect Fit:

While defence-related projects form an essential part of AECOM's portfolio, the company offers a wide range of career opportunities across the globe. Veterans can contribute to meaningful projects that shape communities and impact people's lives positively. Whether within AECOM's national security portfolio or environmental management projects, veterans can leverage their unique skill sets to imagine, influence, inspire, and deliver transformational projects. AECOM understands that transitioning from military service can be a daunting process and offers a robust support network to connect veterans with like-minded individuals who have undergone a similar journey.

Work-Life Balance and Benefits:

There is a company-wide view that a great work-life balance benefits the business and the individual, therefore AECOM offers flexible, hybrid work options for all employees through its Freedom to Grow philosophy. This approach prioritises client needs, team collaboration and individual requirements when determining work schedules and locations. Additionally, reservists enjoy the benefit of 15 extra days of leave to fulfil their military commitments. With a focus on good mental health and mentoring opportunities, each individual is supported to thrive and be part of a supportive network.

Continuous Development and Growth:

AECOM's commitment to professional growth extends to all employees, including veterans. Through AECOM University, personnel can engage in continuous development programs covering various subjects, from safety and health to the company's sustainable legacies framework.
