Plymouth Armed Forced Day Badge Competition 2018

Challenging Plymouth young designers! The Plymouth Armed Forces Day badge competition is here!

Each year, this competition is sponsored by MKC Heroes Service and Veterans' Children's group, providing the official Plymouth Armed Forces Day Badge that raises funds for the Royal British legion Poppy Appeal. Over the years, the badge has raised in excess of £10, 000 with the 2017 badge raising in excess of £1650..

Last year’s winner was Sophia Broome, six years-old, from Yealmpstone Farm Primary School. Sophia’s wonderful design included military figures on the badge, and was selected from hundreds of entries from schools across the city.

The annual competition is sponsored by the Military Kid’s Club (MKC) Heroes, a tri-service children and young people's voice group, formed in Plymouth. Plymouth MKC Heroes is the biggest cluster in the country with over 60 member schools.

MKC Heroes Trustee, Pete Ogburn, said ‘MKC Heroes have sponsored this competition for several years now. It is a pleasure to receive all the entries and see the creative designs our young people come up with. Sophie created a fantastic design that raised lots of money for the Poppy Appeal.'

The competition is open to all children and young people, in all Plymouth schools, who are invited to design a pin badge for our Armed Forces Day celebration in June 2018.

The badge can be any shape; it must include the words: Plymouth Armed Forces Day 2018 and the design must be simple enough to translate into a small pin badge. The competition sponsor requests that weapons are not included within the design.

If you are interested in entering this year's competition, please complete the application form.

The badge will be sold during Armed Forces Week and Day (June 25th to 30th 2018) will all the money raised being donated to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Badges can be purchased from the Barbican Tourist Information Centre and, on Armed Forces Day, from the MKC Heroes marquee on the Hoe.

The winning designer will be presented with their prize at the official opening ceremony of Armed Forces Week, by the Lord Mayor and Military VIPs. Two runners up will also receive prizes at this ceremony, held in Plymouth Council House.

This is a great opportunity to see a design come to life and to see it make a difference to the lives of others through the support it will provide within the Poppy Appeal.
